My best memories of 2012 and My goal for 2013 :)

I look back my 2012 memories.

I graduated from ICU high school. I really really enjoyed my high school life, so it was a little sad... Anyway, it is my big memory and I may be matured through graduate ceremony.

My next good memory is this encounter with 3D. They are very kind and heartful people,so I'm happy to meet them. I want to take contact with them next year!

This summer, I joined SEA program and went Canada. It was so amazing. I had a nice time in Canada with this member and host family.

I played a game of lacrosse in this summer. I have a league game and my team won the game! To practice lacrosse was very hard during summer, but I was glad to win the game.

My goal for 2013 has not decided yet but I want to live a good life.
Also, I will be 20 years old in 2013, so my goal is to have responsibility.

Introduction of essay

Military Robots Invade Human?

Doraemon, Mighty Atom and Gundam are popular Japanese imaginary robots but these robots are only in animation world. However, it may not be a fantastic story because the existence of robots comes closer to human society. Both industrial robots and non-industrial robots are increasing human society. As statistic shows, about 2.5 million non-industrial robots were used in 2011, and it is 15% more than in 2010 (“Service Robot Statistics”). In addition to this, Japan is called as robot advanced country and Japan occupies the biggest robot market in the world in 2011 (“Industrial Robot Statistics”). Thus, robots are near to human society and they are developing step by step. It seems inevitable to stop development of robots. In fact, development of robot may bring better life to human, while excessive development of robot could be bring some dangers to human, especially military robots are really dangerous for human. Military robots helps the military on battlefield to search and remove bombs, to kill people by remote control and to examine the battlefield (Soat). Japanese ninth constitution is against war and maintenance of war potential (Japan) ; however, military robots must be war potential. Therefore, Japan should consider about potential danger of development of military robots and control from abuse of military robots as a robot advanced country.

If I have a 5 years old child...

If I had a 5 years old child who had an accident and was officially diagnosed as brain dead, I cannot donate his or her own organs. First, my opinion about it is to donate his or her organ because someone is needed its organ. According to Shannon, he notes an ethical term, beneficence. Referring to this idea, my donation could help someone who has a serious disease. Also, if I have a child who has a serious disease, I want to find a donor, so donation is beneficence.
However, I cannnot grant brain dead as compleately death because the heart is still beating. Today, I searched what brain dead is and whether people who was diagnosed as brain dead can come back. I learned brain dead people mostly would die in a few days. After I knew it, I changed my idea for not to donate because I want to care for my child's real death; the time of his/her heart stops if he/she would die in a few days. I agree with Morioka's comments about Japanese culture which is "he soul has its own body" (Morioka 4). It seems to me soul remains in brain dead person's body, so I cannnot choose organ transplantation to rest in pease.
I do not want to deny organtransplantation and I want to use this system in my own case. Also, it is time for Japan  to modernize as Morioka said. Although, I will not choose organ transplantation because this situation is about my child.

about my essay topic: robots

a) Key word
industrial robots/ service robots/ humanoid/ human-like

b) Why are you interested in?
I heard Japan is a robot advanced country. Actually, there are many robots in workplace, daily life and they influences human being. I think it is ineevitable to develop robot. However, I am a little nervous about it, so I want to think about how coexist robot and human.

c) Possible Research Qs
*How should coexist human being and robot in present world.
*What is merit and demerit to develop robots?
*How are robots helpful for human beings?

d)Possible Sources
1: Advances in Human-Robot Interaction (Book)
Editors: Erwin Prassler, Gisbert Lawitzly, Andreas Stopp, Gerhard Grunwald, Martin Hagele, R udiger Dilmann, Ioannis Iossifidas
It is helpful to get tips about how to coexist.

2:Humanoid Robot Works Side by Side with People (Science Dialy)
by Elhuyar Fundazioa
It is about how to adopt robot industry so it is about industrical robots.

3:Day-care robots win honors from METI (Japan Times)
by the Associated Press
This article is about service robots, so it is exactly future robots.
I want to focus on service robots and how and where it is needed.

4:International Federation of Robotics (Web site)
It is helpful because it gives the definition of robot, statistics of service robot and recent invention.

5:Are Older Adults Willing to Acceot Help from Robots?
by Human Factors and Ergonomics Society
I think it is major problem of living with using robots. Robots are introduced in many place, but some people are aginst it. This article is helpful to know opposite opinions.

I am looking for more sources and thinking about reserch questions.
Though, it is a little difficult for me to organize it.
In this week, I'll try these things.

Child organ transplants

For the first time in Japan's medical history, organs from a person under 15 were transplanted to other people on April 13-14. Such transplants became possible after the revised Organ Transplant Law went into force in July 2010.
Under the original law, which went into effect in 1997, only people aged 15 or older who have expressed their desire to donate organs in writing could become donors on the condition that their families consent. The revised law allows harvesting of organs from anyone at any age if the person has not explicitly expressed his or her refusal to be a donor and if his or her family consents.

If a donor is younger than 18, it must be confirmed that he or she has not been physically abused. The April 13-14 transplants could lead to more organ transplants from children to children.

The donor was a boy between 10 and 15 whose brain was damaged in a traffic accident in the Kanto-Koshinetsu region. His heart was given to a man in his late teens. His lungs, kidneys, pancreas and liver were given to four other older patients.

Until this case, under the revised law, transplants had been made from 38 brain dead people. But they were all adults. When children are declared brain dead, doctors and transplant coordinators should never induce their families to consent to having the children become donors.

Since children's brains have a strong chance of recovery, priority should be given to saving their lives. This is important since, in Japan, before organs may be harvested from a person, two strict tests are carried out, during each of which the respirator is temporarily removed — a process to legally declare the patient brain-dead (as distinguished from a declaration by a doctor treating the person that he or she is brain dead).

The boy's family made a difficult decision. The hospital which treated him should make public what kind of treatment it gave to him and why it judged that he had no chance of recovery. It also should be made public what kind of information was given to his family and how and why they made the decision.

**********************************************************************************

Recently, I often see parents who collect contributions around station because they have a child who need organ transplants.
I think the revision of Organ Transplants Law in 2010 was great progress for children and thier parents, so I am interested in this issue.
However, this issue has a lot of problems still.
I think the most difficult thing is to judge there are any chances of recovery.
Also, I heard organ transplant is not common in Japan.
I hope the opportunity  to transplant organ is get to increase.
